Cristoforo Landino (vollständig Cristoforo di Bartolomeo Landino, latinisiert Christophorus Landinus; * 8. Februar 1425 in Pratovecchio (wahrscheinlicher) oder Florenz; † 24. September 1498 (umstritten) in Borgo alla Collina, heute Ortsteil von Castel San Niccolò) war ein italienischer Humanist und Dichter, Lehrer der Rhetorik und der Poetik, Staatskanzler der Republik Florenz. Cristoforo Landino wurde 1424 in Pratovecchio bei Florenz geboren und widmete sich in Volterra und seiner Vaterstadt den klassischen Studien. Unterstützt durch die Medici, vor allem Piero di Cosimo de’ Medici, schlug er eine akademische Laufbahn am Studio Fiorentino, der Florentiner Universität, ein und übernahm 1457 die Professur der Poesie und Beredsamkeit, wo er sich mit Theorie der Poesie und der Kommentierung lateinischer und italienischer Autoren und Philosophen befasste. Die Hauptwerke Landinos sind seine Disputationes Camaldulenses (Florenz 1475, Straßburg 1508) und sein umfassender Kommentar zu Dantes Divina Commedia, wodurch er die Dante-Studien in Italien wesentlich förderte. Außerdem verfasste Landino Kommentare zu Horaz (1482) und Vergil (1487/88), Juvenal (1462) und Persius (1462), lateinische Gedichte und eine Übersetzung von Plinius Naturgeschichte. Er war Lehrer bekannter intellektueller Persönlichkeiten wie Ugolino Verino, Angelo Poliziano (1454–1494) und Marsilio Ficino (1433–1499) sowie auch der Erzieher der 1449 und 1453 geborenen Söhne von Piero di Cosimo de' Medici, Lorenzo il Magnifico und Giuliano di Piero de’ Medici. Die Florentiner Signorie schenkte ihm dafür ein in Borgo alla Collina auf dem Wall gelegenes Turmhaus, wo er begraben liegt. Durch Marsilio Ficino wurde Landino zur Beschäftigung mit dem Neuplatonismus angeregt, die zu seinem Beitritt zur Accademia Platonica 1462 führte. 1497 endete Landinos Lehrtätigkeit und er zog sich vom öffentlichen Leben zurück. 1498 starb er in Pratovecchio.
