Carboxymethylcellulosen (CMC) sind Celluloseether, Derivate der Cellulose, bei denen ein Teil der Hydroxygruppen als Ether mit einer Carboxymethyl-Gruppe (–CH2–COOH) verknüpft sind. Die Cellulose wird aus Nadel- und Laubhölzern gewonnen.
